Tony Cavell and Peter Gascoigne have worked in classic vehicle restoration, race-car preparation and classic car sales for nearly thirty years, working together for the past twenty years. The pair have been associated with Barons for the past decade.

A well-known MKII racer and Jaguar race-car preparation specialist Tony had a string of successes both behind the wheel and as a Race Engineer. Peter began racing Minis in 1970 before turning his attention to Classic Cars in the 1980s. Alongside the classic car sales and restoration business, Tony and Peter have built and prepared a large number of exciting racing cars on behalf of their owners. These include Austin-Healey 3000s, XK Jaguars and even Ford Mustangs.

A Jaguar Mk II racing car driven by Roy Salvadori in the early 1960s was a notable machine ‘1628 VC’ and is the only surviving ‘works’ vehicle. It was subsequently raced successfully by privateer John Sparrow in the British and European Saloon Car Championships. When Peter Gascoigne discovered it in 1996 it was in a very sad state, with a 7-litre engine shoehorned under the bonnet it had been used for drag racing, . Over the next few years Peter and Tony restored it to former glory in original specification. Tiff Needell drove it at the first Goodwood Revival in 1998. The car subsequently went under the hammer at Barons’ first-ever auction, just a week later.

“Peter and I are very excited to be in the driving seat at Barons, after working together, both at Barons and before, for many decades,” said Tony.

Peter and Tony plan to develop the company, with Barons’ key strengths offering value for money for both vendors and buyers. They have an awesome sale venue at Sandown Park, and with their in-depth of knowledge of the classic car world and sheer enthusiasm for classic and collectors’ cars, they see a bright future.

Barons have also nurtured agents around the country who can assist with consigning classic cars.

The office situated in the New Forest is staffed between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Barons have brought numerous improvements to the business and have remained committed to the same values and continue to offer the same, high quality service at very competitive rates.
