The new F-Type has evolved into a 'purer expression' of Jaguars take on the definitive sports car

The F-Type R obtains a 575ps supercharged V8 propelling the car from 0-60mph in a measly 3.5 seconds, and an uprated chassis complete with new springs, dampers, anti-roll bars, and rear knuckles.

A new model has been introduced with a 450ps supercharged V8 with the option of rear or all-wheel drive. The dynamics have also been tuned to make the performance not only more engaging for the driver but also make the performance more exploitable, on track or day-to-day driving.

The 'Quickshift' transmission has been comprehensively recalibrated now offering crisper, faster gear changes, using know-how exploited from the 200mph Jaguar XE SV Project 8

The interior now features a new 12 inch 'Interactive Driver Display', with two superb Meridian sounds systems. Connect via AppleCarPlay and Android Auto.

Jaguar Design Director Julian Thomson said: “Design the most beautiful sports car, with purity, proportion and presence that’s unmistakably Jaguar: that was the challenge we set ourselves. The new F-TYPE is more dramatic than ever, with even greater clarity of purpose in every line, surface and feature, and embodies true Jaguar design DNA.

“State-of-the-art technologies together with luxurious materials and finishes deliver beauty with purpose in an interior which will delight driver and passenger alike even before the engine starts and the journey begins. Jaguar has been making sports cars for more than 70 years, and that rich heritage has inspired the team to create something truly extraordinary.”

The all-wheel drive F-TYPE R supercharged V8's figures have been raised to 575PS and 700Nm,from 550PS and 680Nm, delivering outstanding performance in all conditions whilst retaining day-to-day usability. Performance is exceptional, with a sprint from 0 to 60mph taking just 3.5 seconds and an electronically-limited 186mph top speed.

The F-TYPE R’s upped power is paired with a comprehensively uprated chassis with new, wider, 20-inch, 10-spoke wheels in Gloss Black with diamond-turned finish, new adaptive dampers, springs, anti-roll bars and stiffer rear knuckles and ball joints, creating greater agility and responsiveness.

Taking know-how taken from developing the limited-edition, 200mph Jaguar XE SV Project 8, the 'Quickshift' transmissions in both the new F-TYPE R and the 450PS V8 models have been recalibrated for a 'more engaging driving experience'. The new F-TYPE R specifically offers faster, crisper gear changes when the driver commands shifts manually via the steering wheel-mounted paddles or the 'SportShift' gear selector.

The new 450PS supercharged V8 has been developed to offer exploitable, rewarding performance, with it's maximum torque of 580Nm being generated from just 2,500rpm. You're offered with a choice between all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive for purists. Both versions can accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 177mph.

All engines, the 300PS turbo four-cylinder and 450PS and 575PS V8 options, feature active exhaust systems. Customers who opt for the extra cylinders and legendary noise of the 450PS or 575PS supercharged V8s will surely appreciate the new Quiet Start function, which ensures a more subtle, refined sound for those times you might want to be little more subtle, or just want to drive in quiet. The electrically-actuated bypass valves in the rear silencer stay closed until they open up automatically when you bury your foot into the throttle. If you just want to hear the engine roar (the V8 F-type, in my opinion, creates one of the most glorious sounds a modern car can make), the Quiet Start can be over-ridden by choosing Dynamic Mode or pressing the switchable exhaust button before starting the engine.

The well known crackle and pop on the overrun, instantly recognisable as the F-TYPE, is still there.

F-TYPE Vehicle Line Director Alan Volkaerts said: “The new F-TYPE is the definitive Jaguar sports car and continues to set the benchmark for design purity, driver engagement and reward, and a truly visceral driving experience – it makes every journey extraordinary.

“Its timeless looks are more assertive than ever, technologies such as the high-definition virtual instrument cluster deepen the driver-focused feel of the interior, while the range of powertrains offers a breadth of choice unrivalled in the segment. Enthusiasts will appreciate the new F-TYPE R’s 575PS supercharged V8, enhanced chassis and intelligent all-wheel drive system, which deliver truly outstanding performance in all conditions while retaining its inherent tractability and usability.”
