Description

1949 Vincent Rapide C Series

You could be forgiven for assuming this magnificent machine was developed and produced in the Midlands as did BSA, Triumph and many of its competitors. Road testing of the Vincents must have rudely awakened the sleepy home counties town of Stevenage despite the area being home to a number of engineering companies as early as the Edwardian period with firms such as Phoenix Cars and later along the road at Letchworth, Shelvoke Drewry.

Marketed as the "Worlds fastest standard motorcycle", the Rapide had the audacity to boast a unit construction power unit so rugged it did not require a frame.

In its planning stage since 1943, the C Series was introduced just post war and ran until 1950. Followed by the introduction of the Black Shadow with an even more powerful engine producing 55 BHP and a top speed approaching 125 MPH.

The example offered benefits, according to the vendor, from matching frame/engine numbers and a high level of originality.

Whilst KXF352 is not DVLA registered, the machine comes with its original continuation buff log book issued in 1951. This confirms it retaining its original registration number.

Following many years of storage, KXF352 was purchased by the vendor with the intention of conducting a nut and bolt restoration. A lifestyle change of direction has resulted in his decision to part with the machine to allow the new owner the opportunity to restore this iconic machine to its former glory.

We will offer the bike at our March auction and have been instructed to submit offers over 30,000 on the day to the vendor.

Viewing is invited during our normal business hours.
