Talks about heat at Car & Classic are, predictably, of a different nature from the average national news: coming to the leading online classic and specialist vehicle marketplace’s auction site is a two-seater road-legal track car, the Vuhl 05.

Weighing just 725kg, the all-aluminium monocoque and carbon fibre hot Mexican was built by brothers Guillermo and Iker Echeverria and is the only one of its kind in the UK. It was driven by F1 pilot Esteban Gutierrez (whose autograph can be seen on the car’s dashboard) up The Hill at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2013, the year it was built.

The 05 uses Ford’s 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine and six-speed manual gearbox. Because of its light weight, 0-60mph is an impressive 3.5sec and top speed is more than 150mph.

Factory upgrades in 2017 added a not inconspicuous rear spoiler, ECU work to free up 310hp (up from 285 bhp) and a set of 17-inch gloss black OZ wheels shod with Toyo Proxes R888R cut slicks.

“In a country where track days are popular, our circuits are awash with the usual suspects, but if you want to stand out, and at the same time enjoy a racing motorbike feel on four wheels, the Vuhl is the car for you,” says Car & Classic Head of Editorial Chris Pollitt.

Authentication and dealer’s Sale & Fit record of the car’s tracking system (monitored by Tracker Network UK) back up a well-maintained car with only 8,000 thoroughly enjoyed miles on the clock.
