Are you - or do you know - a van driver who deserves special recognition this year?

What Car?, TV personality Edd China and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have teamed up to scour the UK for van-driving heroes who have kept the nation moving during a testing 12 months - and we need your help to find them.

All you have to do to enter - be it putting yourself forward or nominating a friend - is send in the contact details for your Van Hero, up to 300 words of explanation and any supporting photos or video via this link.

The team of judges will then pick their ten favourites to celebrate across the What Car? website and on all judges’ social media channels to highlight their achievements.

“Courier, delivery driver, carpenter, plumber… the list of people that might be driving a van is endless, and we just want to hear the stories of any van drivers that you believe are a cut above the rest,” said Steve Huntingford, editor of What Car? “It doesn’t matter what you do or what van you drive; you can nominate yourself, or anyone you think has made a difference, during this difficult year.”

Backing the project to bring some cheer to the van-driving community, as well as joining the judging panel, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’s head of marketing, press and public relations Kate Thompson said: “The events of this year have shone a light on the critical role that van drivers across the country play. The altruism, innovation and sheer determination they’ve shown proves what we’ve known for a long time – they’re heroes! And we want to give them the recognition they deserve.”

Explaining what he was looking for from winners, judge Edd China added: “We’re looking to celebrate van drivers who have gone above and beyond during this time of national crisis, be it working tirelessly to deliver food to vulnerable people, getting key workers around, always going the extra mile to ensure that local businesses have been kept stocked or simply getting to work on time and with a smile, even when times have been especially hard. Anyone who sends in a good news story about what they or a friend do that leaves my tummy feeling warm and fuzzy will be in with a shout!”

What Car?’s Van Awards, revealing the very best vans on the market, will be revealed in early November, prior to What Car?’s Van Heroes with Edd China, in association with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
