In the twenties, with Felice Nazzaro and Antonio Ascari (Father Alberto), Pietro Bordino was one of the most famous Italian drivers. 

Along with Nazzaro, his name is associated with many victories for FIAT.

He won in 1922 the Grand Prix of Italy, ran the Indianapolis 500 of 1925 finishing tenth, and took part in 10 races of ' American Championship Car Racing organized by the AAA in the United States .

In 1927 he led the race the innovative Fiat 806 , the first single-seater GP history, the Grand Prix of Milan, held on the circuit of Monza. Bordino won, also scoring the fastest lap. After the race, the FIAT retired forever from the Grand Prix.

He died in 1928 at Alexandria while he was trying a Bugatti before a race. Suddenly a dog crossed the road and got stuck under the car between the bars of the steering , making the vehicle uncontrollable. Bordino fell into the waters of Tanaro river and drowned. His co-driver, Giovanni Lasagna, suffered a serious skull fracture and died shortly after.

Piping is buried in the Turin Monumental Cemetery .
