BMW Motorcycles R6 1936

In 1936 BMW introduced one of the most technologically advanced motorcycles of the day.
The R5 with the overhead valve, flat twin became BMWs hottest sporting motorcycle, with an all welded tubular frame fitted with the latest telescopic forks, but still with a rigid rear. This machine was the basis for BMW s first 600cc motorcycle the R6, which BMW marketed as a touring machine alongside the R5. Although a side valve, it bristled with all the new technology of the day, gleaned from the race bikes, hydraulic forks, foot gear shift 4 speeds, plus adjustable steering dampening.
The 600cc R6 is capable of producing 18 bhp at 4, 500 rpm. Carburettors fitted were twin Amals (made under license by Fischer).
BMW produced 1850 R6s and according to BMW historian Ian Fallon, production of the R6 lasted only one year. It is thought that there may be about only 50 R6s left in the world today.
