Brough Superior Motorcycles 680 1934

This machine was acquired for the Ward Bros collection of Veteran, Edwardian Pioneer and Vintage Motor cars and Motorcycles, held at Henley on Thames in 2005 from the late Colin Pinder a stalwart of not only the Brough Club but the Scott Owners Club and the V.M.C.C.
Colin had been a trials rider of note since the 1950s and often passengered for the great Arthur Lampkin in the 1970s on a Bultaco Trials outfit.
Records show that this machine was dispatched from the Brough Factory on the 27th of April 1934, with ‘posi-stop foot gear control, battery on front platform, separate oil tank complete with Bowden control, detachable carrier not fitted, small type curved top pannier bags, aluminium oil bath front chain case, top and bottom rear chain covers and B.S. handlebars complete with outside right and left –hand twist grips’.
The machine was supplied new to dealers Chas. Cope & Sons. Factory records show that a new engine (number GTO/V/51712/S) was supplied in May 1937 and it should be noted that the current engine fitted more correctly, dates from 1934 the S suffix denoting an engine built to customer’s specifications.
In 2012 we were lucky enough to secure the services of Dave Cark in the UK (Dave is the technical officer for the UK Brough Club) and sent 3 Broughs back to England for Dave to assess and perform his magic on. The 3 bikes underwent a complete strip, assessment and rebuild, so we are now able to confidently take any of the Broughs in the collection on any decent trip.
This gem of a Brough was purchased in 2009 at a UK auction of the Ward Brothers’ collection.
