Chevrolet Usa Copo Camaro

The year 2012 also saw the relaunch of the COPO Camaro, based off the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
Designed as an homage to the 1969 car of the same name, the COPO Camaro is a factory-built NHRA Stock Eliminator. Only 69 COPOs were built and purchasing opportunities were offered using a random selection process. The cars had three engine options: a naturally aspirated 427 and two supercharged 327 engines, and they had a 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission. At the 2012 SEMA show, Chevrolet Performance announced it would offer another 69 COPOs for the 2013 model year.
Engines
As the creator of the crate engine concept, Chevrolet Performance has many varieties of crate engines available. It has offerings in the big-block, Small-block, circle track, LSX, LS, and E-ROD categories.
Crate Powertrains
In addition to individual engines, Chevrolet Performance also offers complete crate powertrains, billed under the Connect & Cruise name. The packages include an engine, a transmission, an engine control module, transmission control, and an installation kit. It comes in LS3 and LSA configurations, which make 430 and 556 horsepower, respectively.
Transmissions
Chevrolet Performance offers an extensive lineup of transmissions for installation onto GM-based powertrains. Its automatic transmissions come from the Hydra-Matic and SuperMatic lines of transmissions, while the manual transmissions come from the Tremec® line.
Racing
Chevrolet Performance has a major presence in many of the top racing series, including NHRA, NMCA, SCCA, ALMS, IndyCar, and NASCAR, while also supporting semi-pro racers with a presence at circle track events. It also sponsors events such as the LSX Shootout at the NMCA finals every year.
Chevrolet Performance’s main presence at the races is the Chevrolet Performance rig on site to offer support to customers who have questions about their projects, as well as offer parts for sale.
FUEL eNewsletter
Chevrolet Performance distributes FUEL, an eNewsletter for Chevrolet automotive performance enthusiasts, which has a current readership of about 350,000. It was started in 2009 and is delivered by email every month.
The BLOCK
The BLOCK is a social website hosted by Chevrolet Performance. It has been live since May 2012. The site features forums covering many performance topics, and is an automotive enthusiast community where members can post about their project cars, including what parts they have installed, performance figures, etc.
Other sections of the site include daily automotive news, a racing section, events information, race results, and racing news. It also has an events calendar highlighting regional events, enthusiast car shows, and events the Chevrolet Performance semi trailer display will attend. The display has company representatives to answer questions customers have about their builds, as well as offer parts for sale.
Legendary Performance For The 21st Century
The COPO was never designed for everyday roads, so there’s little sound deadening, no underbody sealant, and no back seat. Because in a sport where shaving time is everything, there’s nothing better than a head start. COPO is a true racing machine. It is specifically offered for off-highway, competitive NHRA use only. It cannot be registered, titled, licensed, or driven on public roads or highways. The COPO Camaro is designed to NHRA racing specifications, including a solid axle and a full chrome-moly roll cage. Inside, most of the standard sound-deadening and power accessories have been deleted in order to optimize weight for NHRA racing. Also included: a pair of racing bucket seats (no rear seat), a safety harness for the driver, a competition floor shifter, and Chevrolet Performance gauges.
BACKGROUND
When the COPO concept was first shown at the 2011 SEMA Show, the overwhelming response inspired the decision for a limited, special-edition production run. Engines were assembled in Wixom, Mich., at the Performance Build Center, where the buyer could opt to participate in the engine assembly. The program has been so successful that it has been continued every year since. This year, 69 more COPO Camaros will be heading to the drag strip to carry on the tradition.
HONORING THE COPO LEGACY
A 69-car production was selected to commemorate the original number of ZL-1 COPO Camaros made in 1969. COPO — which stands for Central Office Production Order — was Chevrolet's special-order system, notoriously used by dealers in the 1960s to build high-performance models that couldn't be found anywhere else. The second-coming of the COPO name is an extension of the legacy started in 1969, when the first purpose-built Camaro drag-racing specialty car was designed to compete with the quickest in NHRA's Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes. National records for quarter-mile times in these contests are in the 9-second range.
The engines offered in the COPO Camaro program were developed to align with the top classes in NHRA's various Stock Eliminator and Super Stock ranks:
