Indian Motorcycles 436 1936

Originally marketed as the Indian Ace, the Springfield Indian Company bought the rights to the Ace from its former bankrupt company.
It took the established William Henderson design and continued development with the introduction of the new Indian style down tube frame, leaf sprung front fork and a 5 main bearing crankshaft, valve guide direct lubrication and a pressurised oil pump system in combination with a dry sump.
This model is often referred to as the ‘upside down 4’ simply because in an effort to be innovative, the designers came up with the overhead exhaust valve and side intake valve. This design allowed the fullest use of the latest research in cylinder head design for proper turbulence and better cooling. With the close proximity of the exhaust to the rider’s legs everyone gets to keep warm on a long ride!
This magnificent restoration was carried out in the US by Roy Davie and has come from a museum collection in the States.
Purchased at auction in 2009 it is the fastest of the Indian Fours, has matching numbers and is nickel plated to factory specs. Cylinders are bright nickel over electolis nickel (the cylinder insides will not rust), with a full list of renovation work carried out supplied and a DVD of it in action after the rebuild.
