Matchless Motorcycles Model H 1921

Motorcycle sales today are often attributable to success on the track, and the 1920s were no different.

Matchless started racing at the prestigious Isle Of Man in 1907 in the single cylinder class, gained a second in 1908 and won its class in 1909 and 1910, proving the company logo correct: ‘Matchless’ were indeed matchless.

After World War I the company designed the Model H, a model particularly suited to the addition of a sidecar. Both JAP and MAG engines were used as power sources and modern features included electric lighting and coil spring rear suspension. The Model H was also equipped with an automatic valve lifter, kick-start and a Matchless designed 3-speed gear box. The sidecar is Matchless’s own full floating and fully sprung sidecar with passenger seat and spare wheel.

Prior to our purchase at auction in the UK this machine was used extensively on club runs. We have yet to fire up this magnificent bike but are looking forward to doing so.
