Morgan Super Sports 1933

The oldest continuous British automobile manufacturer, the Morgan Motor Company was founded in 1909 by HFS Morgan.

A trained engineer, Morgan opened a garage from which he also sold cars and started one of England’s first bus lines. After purchasing an early 3 wheeled vehicle Morgan decided to build one for personal use with economy and speed as his ultimate goals. Morgan began driving his runabout in 1909 and was eventually persuaded to build a two seater. What followed was a flurry of race winning, favourable press and record breaking. By 1912 Morgan was inundated with orders and forced to expand, the great era of the Morgan 3 wheeler had begun.

Selling for around 100 pounds, the Morgan became popular based on its simplicity and low maintenance, with better economy and performance than its more expensive 4 wheeled counterparts. Being 3 wheeled also allowed them to be registered as motorcycles in England, a tax loophole which made for cheap licensing fees.

It was rebuilt from a wreck in the early 1970’s and then suffered another mishap in the 1980’s (rear end) As with most Morgan’s there is not a specific guideline to exactly how each model was built, as they were all individually hand built at the Morgan factory and were rarely identical.

Currently we are having a new JAP motor manufactured in the UK for the bike as the old motor was a re-engineered copy that was poorly built.
