NUT Motorcycles was a British motorcycle manufacturer founded in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1912 by Jock Hall and Hugh Mason (previously of the HM badge).

By 1913 their racing motorcycles were competing successfully in the Isle of Man TT races; Hugh Masons JAP engine NUT won the 1913 Junior TT by just 46 seconds. Originally based on JAP and Villiers engines NUT began to build their own V-Twin sports machines. Following further racing success Mason and Hall moved to larger premises but the company did not survive the First World War.

Specifics about this particular side-valve single motorcycle are sketchy at best. The motor runs well but we are trying to locate any real history it may have. Pat Davey and Peter Sparkes (UK experts on NUT motorcycles) are of the opinion that the frame is of 1914 origin or earlier and the front forks are of American manufacture. Specific dating of the motor is an ongoing challenge as it appears that the magneto and carburetor are of considerably later manufacture.
