Peugeot Motorcycles Perfecta 1902
The Peugeot marque is well known, originating from the building of quality bicycles and later, motorcycles and cars.
Peugeot’s v-twin engine Norton won the first ever TT race in 1907 on the now famous Isle of Man circuit.
This exceptional early racing machine consists of a robust Peugeot cycle frame, equipped with an inline Perfecta engine. This is a single speed machine with pedal assistance and the final drive to the rear wheel is by belt. The drop handle bars reflect the Peugeot sporting pedigree and this bike is equipped with a comfortable Brooks saddle, a handle bar mounted tool box and a saddle tool pannier containing old tools.
This motorcycle has had a most careful restoration some time ago and now has that wonderful patina that only comes with careful long term conservation.
However it has been extensively used in England since its restoration; it has twice completed the Vintage Motorcycle Club’s testing Banbury run in the Cotswold Hills, and equally significantly has twice successfully completed the highly prestigious Pioneer Run from Epsom Downs to Brighton.
We are told that with a 238 lb rider on board, this machine has been clocked at 32mph (not for the faint hearted given the roads of the day).
Dated by the Sunbeam Motor Cycle Pioneer Register in 2004 as being of 1902 manufacture, this bike is a lovely example of French history.
