Rudge Whitworth Motorcycles Rapid 1938

The 250cc Rudge became a fixture in the Rudge range in the 1930s In an era when a ‘five hundred’ was considered to be a large capacity many riders upheld the view that a 250 was cheaper to run and of more use for everyday and weekend riding on the poorly surfaced roads of the period.
One of the company’s final offerings was the ‘Rapid’, catalogued for 1938 at £55 – a two port, single pipe tourer with both full guards and a low level exhaust as standard.
This exquisite light weight Rudge is another delight from the Lynda & Norm Maddock collection from Warkworth. Purchased in 2008 along with two other fine Rudges this completes the NZ Classics Rudge line up. This bike was originally imported from the UK, and has been completely restored by the Maddocks in the 1980s.
