The car is very complete with books, lots of period pamphlets etc, tools, space-saver and plastic cover etc. The accompanying accessories catalogue features a young Derek Bell and I managed to get him to sign it a couple of years ago.
The history file is good, with lots of MOTs and invoices.
A 928S is an excellent choice whether you buy mine or not. It benefits from all the lessons learned and performance improvements over the launch car, but doesn't have any of the complicated electronics that later cars are so notorious for. Still with the classic look, it's a very cool thumbs-up attracting thing and as it is now a historic vehicle, it's also cheaper to run.
I bought the car in 2015 with 52000 miles and I am the 4th owner.
Overal, this car is pretty original with the correct stereo, alloys, windscreen sticker, steering wheel. The only deviations from standard I have made are a shorter gear stick, the Pascha cloth (originally all blue leather) and a couple of discrete USB charger points.
Up until my ownership the car had very little recent use and was not running perfectly. There is a large "recommissioning" invoice from 2010 with fuel system work and new brakes etc, but the car only did about 500 miles in the next 5 years. Now working superbly well, I have been using the car as a fair-weather daily driver as it enjoys regular use and is a joy to burble around in. I've done about 8000 miles in the last 3 years, mainly since the fuel system components were refurbished.
Work carried out under my ownership (over and above regular fluid changes etc) :-
2016/17 New plugs, coil, distributor cap, leads, fuel accumulator, fuel pump, fuel filter etc (trying to resolve inconsistent running)
2017 Seats and doorcards retrimmed with genuine blue/creme Pascha velour and Bridge of Weir leather
2018 Fuel distributor and WUR sent for rebuild. (this transformed the car and it now runs beautifully)
2018 New Bosch battery
2019 Continental ContiSportContact tyres all round
2020 Uprated shift linkages/bushes installed along with shorter gear-lever, all from 928 Motorsports LLC (original retained)
2020 New clutch and brake master cylinders (horrible job!)
2020 New fuel lines in rear offside wheel arch
2020 Complete underside refresh with all surface rust removed and/or treated and painted with appropriate chassis and VHT paints.
2020 Blower motor resistor pack removed and refurbished (common failure - google "928 magic blower syndrome")
2021 Fuel tank filler re-bonded after leak discovered
2021 Minor paint defects addressed - car is just back from the bodyshop
The alloys aren't perfect but look good from any realistic distance so I have been reluctant to refurbish them in case I can't find someone to replicate the very unusual Porsche platinum period finish. I did buy a spare set of silver manhole cover wheels to switch over to while refurbishing, but haven't done so to date. The original wheels have recent Continental tyres but the spare set will need new rubber.
The most comfortable car I own. It will be sorely missed. (The most modest of lottery wins or other financial miracles will result in the immediate withdrawal of this advert but until then, too many cars, not enough space or money, so here it is.)
I'm open to offers but I'm not giving it away. Any offer must compare well to relevant auction results for manual cars (otherwise I would be as well to auction it) and at least make some sense next to other cars' asking prices.
Happy to provide more photos etc if required.
Car is located 90 minutes from Glasgow. Happy to bring it to the city for viewing/inspection.
