Buick soldiered on with its full-size formula of big-car style, performance and features until an update in 1949 improved on tradition and brought the now famous portholes—or Ventiports—into mid-century American automotive design. The 1949 lineup retained much of the popular Buick style ahead of a controversial 1950 update.
