The Mercedes 500K (type W29) is a grand touring car built between 1934 and 1936. The 500K was first shown at the Berlin Motor Show in 1934, and had a Kompressor (German for supercharger).

The 500K was the successor to the 380 that had hit the market the year before. The car offered both a larger, more powerful engine and more opulent bodywork and met the wishes of customers for more luxury and performance.

The 500K had a new suspension and was therefore a lot more comfortable and had better handling than the previous S / SS / SSK generation of roadsters from the 1920s. The car was more attractive to buyers, in particular the growing number of well-to-do female drivers of that time.

342 models of the 500K were produced and 435 copies of the later 540K (W24) of which only 29 received a Roadster body and which was built between 1935 and 1940. This variant was also available as a Special at an additional cost whereby the owner could actually decide everything on the body and the interior.
