Alfa Romeo prepares for trio of debuts at Goodwood Festival of Speed

  • New Tonale will make its dynamic UK debut at 2022 Festival of Speed driven by Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN driver Zhou Guanyu
  • New Giulia ESTREMA and Stelvio ESTREMA make UK debuts at festival
  • Tonale is first Alfa Romeo to feature an electrified powertrain and first vehicle ever to come with a Non-Fungible Token (NFT)

This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will see the new Alfa Romeo Tonale make its dynamic UK debut as it tackles the famous Hillclimb.

On the Saturday, Tonale will complete the 1.16-mile Hillclimb with Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN driver, Zhou Guanyu, at the wheel. Alfa Romeo will also showcase the new Giulia and Stelvio ESTREMA models, which are targeted at driving purists.

The Tonale launches Alfa Romeo into a new electrified era, while maintaining its DNA of Italian sportiness and beauty. Designed to blend state of the art-electrification and technology with trademark style, the Tonale is the first mid-sized SUV from the Italian brand.

Taking the wheel of the Tonale on Saturday will be Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN driver Zhou Guanyu.  Following his great start to his first season in F1, including a point on his debut race and his highest points finish to date in Canada last weekend, Zhou will be meeting Formula 1 fans and signing autographs on the Alfa Romeo stand at 13:50 before taking the Tonale for its final run of the day.

The ESTREMA special series will also make its UK debuts at the festival with visitors able to get a first look at the cars on the Alfa Romeo stand. Designed for driving purists, with dynamic dampers and a rear limited-slip differential as standard, the ESTREMA special series is available on both the Giulia saloon and Stelvio SUV.

Fans will be able to get up close to the New Tonale and Giulia and Stelvio ESTREMA models on the Alfa Romeo stand throughout the weekend.  They can also witness the UK dynamic debut of the new Tonale as it cements its sporting credentials taking to the hill from the ‘First Glance’ paddock where it will be based over the weekend.

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale
The new Tonale is the most advanced Alfa Romeo ever, including Amazon connectivity and a brand-new, customisable infotainment system with 4G connectivity and Over The Air (OTA) updates. The system comprises a 12.3-inch digital screen and a 10.25-inch main touchscreen which, with a total size of 22.5-inches, the largest in the segment.

The Tonale is the first vehicle ever to come equipped with a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) digital certificate. Designed to be able to record the full history of the car throughout its lifetime, the NFT can be used to demonstrate the maintenance record of the car and support its residual value.

Equipped with a 160hp hybrid-electric engine, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is available in a choice of Ti or Veloce trim. An exclusive ‘EDIZIONE SPECIALE’ launch version will also be available. UK customers will be able to pre-order the new Tonale later this summer. Before the end of the year it will also be joined by a 275hp plug-in hybrid version with Q4 all-wheel drive.

ESTREMA special editions
The ESTREMA special series builds on the Veloce variants of both the Giulia and Stelvio to offer the perfect combination of technical refinement, driving pleasure and sporting luxury. Fitted with Alfa Synaptic Dynamic Control (SDC) adaptive suspension and with a limited slip differential, the ESTREMA variants offer uncompromising grip and traction in variable conditions. Giulia and Stelvio ESTREMA are equipped with the Alfa Romeo 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine which produces 280hp. Alternatively, the Stelvio is also available with the210hp 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine and both are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

There are visual cues across the exterior and throughout the interior that define the sporty look of ESTREMA. These include carbon fibre mirror caps and front ‘V’ grille, dark tone ESTREMA badging and five-hole, dark painted 19-inch alloy wheels on the Giulia and 21-inch wheels on the Stelvio. The same sporty look and feel can be found on the interior where carbon fibre accents highlight the cabin, along with Alcantara®

Ferrari Celebrates 75th Anniversary at Goodwood Festival of Speed with FIVE UK Dynamic Debuts

296 GTB, SF90 Spider, 812 Competizione, Daytona SP3, and Ferrari SP3

Ferrari is celebrating its 75th Anniversary with an incredible display of Prancing Horse cars at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, including 5 models which are making their UK dynamic debut.

The brand is also honoured to be represented by many passionate Ferrari collectors who have also entered an outstanding display of classic racing Ferrari models, which range from the first ever Ferrari, the 125S, to the beautiful and highly-successful 250 LM, as well as the iconic 156 Sharknose, as well as the Ferrari 333 SP endurance racer and the Ferrari Challenge 488 evo.

The first of the UK dynamic debuts is the brand’s first V6-hybrid, the 296 GTB which was recently launched to critical acclaim. The 296 GTB has 830cv, from a 2.9-litre mid-rear-mounted V6 which generates 663cv and a hybrid system which can deliver another 167cv to the rear wheels. The 296 GTB on display at the Festival of Speed is represented in a stunning Rossa Corsa with a racing livery in Baby Blue, as part of the optional Assetto Fiorano pack, which includes more aggressive aerodynamics and fixed racing dampers.

The colour scheme of this particular car was inspired by the historic racing livery of Colonel Ronnie Hoare’s Maranello Concessionaires racing team of the 1960s and 1970s, with many cars such as a 250 LM, 275 GTB and 365 GTB4 Daytona having also raced with a similar livery. The car also features an iconic numberplate, “EHF 1”, which was registered on many Ferrari cars in the past, during the days when Maranello Concessionaires also managed the importing of the brand to the UK, before the importing rights were returned to Ferrari SpA in October 2014. Ownership of the EHF 1 numberplate remains with the official Ferrari dealer, Maranello Sales, based at the historic Tower Garage in Egham, and the dealer has very kindly loaned the numberplate to Ferrari North Europe to complete the historic nod to the brand’s history in the UK.

Alongside the 296 GTB in the Supercar Paddock is the Ferrari SF90 Spider, the open-top version of the SF90 Stradale which was launched in 2019 to celebrate the Scuderia Ferrari’s 90th Anniversary. The SF90 Spider features a 3.9-litre V8 engine which produces 780cv, in addition to three electric motors, connected to each of the front wheels and between the engine and gearbox,  which deliver another 220cv, making the combined total power output an astonishing 1000cv. This specification of this particular SF90 Spider was chosen by a journalist from Autocar magazine, which will feature a full review of the car in a forthcoming issue.

Alongside the Ferrari 296 GTB and the Ferrari Roma is the Ferrari 812 Competizione, a limited series car based on the Ferrari 812 Superfast, but with the 6.5-litre V12 tuned to deliver another 30cv for a total power output of 830cv. The 812 Competizione also features more aggressive aerodynamics to the front and rear, with revised front and rear track and suspension settings, including an innovative rear-wheel steering system for quicker turn-in and sharper handling. It also has a soundtrack that will reverberate all the way through the Duke of Richmond’s crenellated flint-faced mansion, so that even the most elegant of ladies in his “Whitehall and the Privy Garden from Richmond House” painting by Canaletto will hear it.

The two other Ferrari cars making their UK dynamic debut are the Ferrari Daytona SP3 and the Ferrari SP38. Both of these cars are outstanding examples of Ferrari’s design language from maestro Flavio Manzoni’s pen, with the Daytona SP3 inspired by classic Endurance racers of the past, such as the 330 P3/4 and the 250 LM. The Daytona SP3 is the third car in Ferrari’s “Icona” range of cars, after the stunning Monza SP1 and Monza SP2 models which have won a raft of awards, including the “Best of the Best” in the Red Dot Design Awards in 2019.

The Ferrari SP38 has been entered by a private client, and it was designed to their own personal specification as part of Ferrari’s One-Off programme in which clients have the unique opportunity to, quite literally, create the Ferrari of their dreams. The Ferrari SP38 is based on the chassis and engine of the Ferrari 488 GTB, but features bespoke bodywork which has been exquisitely crafted in carbon-fibre, but with inspiration for the design coming from the iconic Ferrari F40 for many of the details and visual treatment of surfaces.

The Ferrari range is also represented by the Ferrari Roma, an elegant and stylish 2+2 front-mid-engined V8 coupe that embodies the Italian La Dolce Vita lifestyle. Alongside it sits the Ferrari Monza SP2, another limited series car from the Ferrari Icona range, which takes inspiration from the simple and elegant racing barchettas of Ferrari’s past, without being a retro-pastiche of a particular model.

Ferrari’s display is completed by two other cars which give the 812 Competizione stiff competizione in the “Best Soundtrack Ever” rankings: the Ferrari 599XX and FXX K, both of which represent two of the most exciting and memorable V12 engines ever installed into a car. The XX cars are designed solely for track use, and are not homologated for road or race. This gives the Ferrari engineers completely free reign to test new technologies on the track, the principles of which often make it on to Ferrari’s road cars.

And, of course, Ferrari’s presence at Goodwood wouldn’t be complete without the presence of the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team and Ferrari Driver Marc Gené. The Scuderia Ferrari will be running the Ferrari F2009 from 2009 , as well as displaying the Ferrari 599XX and FXX K from the company’s XX division in the Supercar Paddock.

The 75th Anniversary celebrations are also being supported by many passionate Ferraristi who have brought their own classic racing Ferrari cars which represent some of the greatest moments in motor sport history, not just that of the Prancing Horse. These include the following models:

The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place from 23-26 June.

The Prodrive P25 – a recreation of the iconic blue Subaru Impreza

The Prodrive P25 will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this Thursday 23 June.

It’s 25 years since Prodrive debuted the two door Impreza World Rally Car (WRC), which inspired the Subaru Impreza 22B. Only 424 of these special edition road cars were manufactured and over time it has achieved cult status as the ultimate turbo charged four wheel drive car of its era.

Now 25 years later using the latest technology and materials, Prodrive has reimagined what this car would have been today. Just 25 cars will be produced, each with an original two-door Impreza WRX chassis at its core. This is the very same chassis used in the first Impreza WRC, but now with reduced weight, a more powerful engine and improved vehicle dynamics.

Extensive use of carbon composite means the car weighs less than 1200 kg. The use of the latest 2.5 litre flat four ‘boxer’ engine producing over 400 bhp and 600 Nm of torque, combined with a six speed semi-automatic gearbox, WRC-derived launch control and turbo anti-lag, means the P25 will reach 100kph from rest in under 3.5 seconds.

Weight has been removed from the chassis by manufacturing the boot, bonnet, roof, sills, door mirrors, front and rear quarters, WRC style rear wing and bumpers from carbon composite, while inside there are optional lightweight race seats with carbon door cards and a lithium-ion battery.

The engine is based on Subaru’s latest 2.5 litre cylinder block, but has been totally re-engineered by Prodrive’s powertrain team with bespoke internal components, including new cylinder liners, pistons, con rods, and a valve train with variable cam timing. There is a Garrett motorsport turbo with a high performance intercooler and airbox and an Akrapovic titanium and stainless steel racing exhaust system.

The engine is mated to a six speed sequential gearbox with helical cut gears and semi-automatic shift via a paddle on the steering column, giving precise gear changes in 80 milliseconds. The car has a WRC-style launch control system, which combines the fly-by-wire throttle and clutch in the floor mounted pedal box to automatically take the car through first, second and third gear to achieve the optimal acceleration from standstill without any driver intervention.

Power is delivered to all four wheels via a drivetrain which features an adjustable active centre differential and limited-slip differentials front and rear. McPherson strut suspension has been retained, but with machined aluminium uprights which can be tuned for camber and geometry optimised for the wider 1770mm track. The Bilstein dampers are adjustable for compression and rebound while the springs and anti-roll bars optimise the tarmac handling.

Stopping power is provided by AP Racing brakes with 380mm vented discs and six piston calipers at the front and 350mm vented discs and four piston calipers at the rear with floating bells and multiple pad options.  Prodrive 8.5 x 19 rims are fitted with Bridgestone Potenza 235/35/19 tyres which are matched to the dampers.

The driver dashboard is a full width high-definition multi-page display including a data logger. For those wishing to take the car on track the driver can select from various throttle response and engine performance maps, including anti-lag adjustment. There is also a WRC style ‘fly-off’ hydraulic handbrake, which automatically disengages the centre differential to remove drive to the rear wheels. This is in addition to the standard electric park brake.

While Prodrive’s focus has been on the driving experience, the interior has also been upgraded, recreating an authentic late 1990s Impreza interior using a combination of leather, alcantara and carbon trim. The P25 can carry four passengers, but there is also the option to remove the rear seats and have a partial safety cage fitted.

Peter Stevens, who styled the original Impreza WRC in 1997, as well as subsequent Prodrive limited edition Subarus, has restyled a number of features of the P25. Peter has worked alongside the Prodrive engineering team, overseen by technical director, David Lapworth, who was responsible for developing the first Impreza WRC 25 years ago.

David Richards, Prodrive chairman, said: “The iconic blue Subarus bring back memories of an extraordinary era of the WRC and it was the Impreza 22B that brought this rally car performance to the road. By reimagining this car using the latest technologies and materials the Prodrive P25 pays homage to its roots and there will be little else able to match its performance on the open road. I therefore believe we have achieved our vision of creating our own modern interpretation of the most iconic Subaru Impreza ever.”

The first P25 development car will make several runs up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, before embarking on an extensive test and development programme.

The 25 production cars will be built at Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury, UK with the first being delivered to customers later this year.

The P25 will be UK road registered and priced at £460,000 + VAT.

Aston Martin celebrates new era of performance with its most powerful line-up ever at Goodwood Festival of Speed

  • Aston Martin’s limited and final-edition V12 Vantage to make public dynamic debut on Goodwood’s famous hillclimb
  • DBX707, the world’s fastest and most powerful ultra-luxury SUV to make public debut
  • Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar returns with its crowd-pleasing naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine
  • Aston Martin also celebrates its racing DNA with the 100th anniversary of its 1922 Grand Prix debut

There will be thunder in the Downs this month as Aston Martin celebrates its new era of performance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with the ultra-luxury marque’s most powerful model line-up ever.

The British manufacturer will again be a starring attraction of the four-day event on 23-26 June, which spreads across the beautiful Goodwood Estate in the South Downs, UK, and is a highlight of the Great British summer.

The new V12 Vantage, announced earlier this year, will be the final Vantage to receive the company’s largest and most potent series production engine, marking the end of an era for this iconic sportscar. As befits such a glorious era, the new V12 Vantage is the most powerful Vantage and the ultimate expression of extreme performance and thrilling driver-focused dynamics. Following unprecedented demand, all 333 examples of this final edition sold out ahead of release. The car will make its UK public dynamic debut on the famous Goodwood Hillclimb on Thursday, continuing to excite crowds over the course of the weekend.

Goodwood is world-famous for its fast and notoriously tricky hill climb, which makes the dynamic element of the event such a thrill. Following on from a successful global media launch in Sardinia in March and the first customer cars rolling off the line at St Athan last month, the critically acclaimed Aston Martin DBX707 will too make its UK public dynamic debut in the ‘First Glance’ batch over the weekend.

DBX707, the world’s fastest and most powerful luxury SUV, will also showcase several Q by Aston Martin finishes that are available to order through the marque’s bespoke service, including the 2022 Aston Martin Racing Green paint – seen on the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One™ Team’s car, Q design graphics and a set of lime green brake calipers. With class leading performance and outstanding handling, DBX707 will certainly look the part while setting some impressive hillclimb times.

Powered by an almighty, naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine producing 1160bhp, the Festival of Speed couldn’t go without an appearance from the ultimate hypercar, Aston Martin Valkyrie. The sound of its masterful engine commanded huge crowds in the supercar paddock last year. With customer deliveries now underway, Aston Martin’s groundbreaking hypercar returns to take on the hillclimb once more, this year piloted by WEC racer Peter Dumbreck; an ex-Aston Martin Racing factory driver with no less than 15 Nürburgring 24 Hours races under his belt.

Also taking on the hill will be the Vantage F1® Edition; motivated by the marque’s exciting return to Formula 1® last year and as a direct result of the engineering that propelled the development of the Vantage as an Official Safety Car of Formula 1®. This will be joined by the V12 Speedster in the classic DBR1 livery – one of only 88 built, along with the beautiful but brutish DBS, and the DB11. The Aston Martin and Brough Superior AMB001 motorcycle will also be making its Goodwood dynamic debut up the hill this year.

Renato Bisignani, Aston Martin’s Head of Global Marketing and Communications said: “When launching the final-edition V12 Vantage, we told our customers to ‘Never Leave Quietly’, and we hope that everyone leaves Goodwood Festival of Speed this year with the same addictive sound – and sight – of Aston Martin’s most powerful line-up of performance cars, ever.

“We look forward to celebrating Aston Martin’s new era of performance at Goodwood and showcasing our breathtaking portfolio of iconic ultra-luxury models, including a first chance for the public to witness V12 Vantage in all its glory and the opportunity for DBX707 to demonstrate the full potential of the world’s fastest and most powerful ultra-luxury SUV, when it tackles the world-famous hillclimb.”

The beautifully restored Aston Martin Bulldog, which is still gearing up for its first-ever 200mph attempt, also makes an appearance at Goodwood this year following a two-year restoration programme which saw the Bulldog painstakingly stripped and reassembled into its former, iconic glory.

Aston Martin also proudly celebrates the centenary of its maiden Grand Prix entry in 2022. One hundred years on from the 1922 French Grand Prix, TT1 “Green Pea” will once again, take up its position on the start-line at the Festival of Speed.  Borne from the desire of Aston Martin founders – Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford – to produce a Grand Prix racing car, the 1922 TT1 Green Pea set in motion an enduring love of the sport for Aston Martin. This special car will also be joined by the stunning LM4, which raced successfully in the 1930s and still races today in Historic events often in the hands of Aston Martin factory driver, Darren Turner.

The 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th June and will be broadcast on ITV and Sky throughout the weekend.

Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli are confirmed as champions

The Brescian regularity driver equals Giuliano Cané’s record, being the first driver to make a “hat-trick” since 2000

Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli have won the 1000 Miglia 2022. Crew number 46, aboard the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS ZAGATO of 1929, repeated the success achieved in the 2021 edition. For Vesco, also first in 2020 alongside his father Roberto, there is the double satisfaction of having conquered a taboo that had endured for 22 years. Only Giuliano Cané, between 1998 and 2000, had managed to prevail in three consecutive editions of the “most beautiful race in the world.”

In second place, just like a year ago, was Crew number 40 formed by Andrea Luigi Belometti and Gianluca Bergomi in a 1929 Lancia Lambda Spider Type 221. Third step of the podium for Crew number 8 formed by Lorenzo and Mario Turelli in a 1929 O.M. 665 S MM Superba 2000.

Silvia Marini and Irene Dei Tos, in a 1929 Bugatti T40, won the Ladies Cup.

The intense and challenging 1000 Miglia 2022 required great skill from the crews on 115 Time Trials and 8 Average Trials. The Capodimonte dirt road trials on the shores of Lake Bolsena were particularly popular.

Four are the winners of the special trophies linked to the Time Trials. Lorenzo and Mario Turelli, in a 1929 O.M. 665 S MM Superba 2000, won the Nuvolari Trophy, dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Tazio Nuvolari’s birth. To Giovanni Moceri and Valeria Dicembre, in a 1928 Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport, went the San Marino Republic Trophy. Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli, in addition to winning the Race, also won the City of Siena Trophy. The Monza Circuit Centennial Trophy was won by Alberto and Giuseppe Scapolo in a 1929 O.M. 665 S MM Superba 2000.

“It was the 1000 Miglia of the return to normality,” commented Cav. Aldo Bonomi, president of AC Brescia. “In addition to having rediscovered the foreign crews, unavoidably absent in 2020 and 2021, we experienced the extraordinary participation of the public along the roads and in the squares. We want to believe that this is a new beginning after difficult years, a return to sharing our race with the people.”

“A particularly heartfelt thank you to all the Participants, Partners, Local Administrations and the Police who escorted us along the entire route,” says Alberto Piantoni, CEO of 1000 Miglia. “A heartfelt thank you to the 1000 Miglia Team and all the volunteers who made this event possible”.

“The first 1000 Miglia as President gave me new emotions,” commented Beatrice Saottini. “Participating in the race in this capacity after having experienced it so many times as a competitor completed the perception I had of what an unforgettable experience this is”.

1000 MIGLIA 2022 HAS SET OFF – The 426 cars at the start of the 40th re-evocation – The first leg from Brescia to Cervia-Milano Marittima

At 13:30 the 1000 Miglia 2022 officially started. From the platform in Viale Venezia, Brescia, the first of 426 historic cars set off on the 40th re-enactment of the “most beautiful race in the world.”

For the next four days, the crews will be engaged in a journey of more than 2,000 kilometers, from Brescia to Rome and back, passing through some of Italy’s most beautiful and evocative locations in a concentration of excitement and beauty.

Beatrice Saottini, President of 1000 Miglia Srl: “The engine is running. We are leaving on this adventure aware of what we have done so and with a lot of adrenaline for what is still to come. We are ready to give and receive lots of affection all along the route.”

The first leg visits three regions: Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. After leaving Brescia, the cars passed the Lake Garda area via Desenzano, Salò and Sirmione. Then they headed south for a long descent to the Adriatic Sea. From Parco Giardino Sigurtà they continued to Mantua, where the block of Time Trials along the shore of Lago di Mezzo will award the Trophy dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Tazio Nuvolari’s birth.

Around 19:15, the first crews are expected to arrive in Ferrara, where they will stop near the Estense Castle and then head to the Teatro Comunale to have their first in-race dinner. At 20:00 the restart for the last section, with the first car expected in Cervia-Milano Marittima at 22:30.

Alberto Piantoni, CEO of 1000 Miglia Srl: “The main theme of the 1000 Miglia 2022 is “A Way of Living”, which is the sum of many aspects. The organization, the stakeholders, the partners, but also our history and the values behind 1000 Miglia. Inclusion, boldness of thought and responsibility to cars and above all to people.”

Also in the 2022 edition, 1000 Miglia is accompanied by the Ferrari Tribute, a regularity competition dedicated to Maranello models built after 1958, 1000 Miglia Experience, the format dedicated to modern supercars, and 1000 Miglia Green, the race for alternative fuel cars.

Also traveling alongside the historic cars is the IEO-MONZINO Foundation Pink Car, the all-female car that aims to support the fundraiser organized by 1000 Miglia Charity in favor of the WOMEN’S CANCER CENTER.
