By the time the first E36 was launched in 1990, BMW already had an established reputation as masters of the compact executive class of cars. The E36 was the third iteration of the perennially popular 3 Series model but, some would argue, its lineage could be traced right back to the 02 Series of the mid 1960’s. Renowned for their sharp, rear wheel drive handling and premium build quality, the E36 had much to live up to.
