Bridge of Weir Leather celebrated exceptional automotive design throughout the weekend at this year’s Concours of Elegance with a unique display of iconic cars, an all-new design award and supported on the surprise debut of a new Aston Martin.

Featuring some of the world’s most remarkable supercars and classic cars, the Bridge of Weir enclosure played home to a host of ‘Icons’ including the McLaren Speedtail, Aston Martin One-77, David Gandy’s Jaguar XK120, Ford GT, Callum Vanquish 25 and McLaren GT. Each represents outstanding automotive design and Bridge of Weir is proud to have supplied bespoke leather to them all.

This year, Bridge of Weir initiated the Design Award, which honoured a standout car from the concours that exemplified remarkable exterior and interior design. The company prides itself on its connections with automotive designers and was delighted to be joined by Richard Woolley, Studio Director, Advanced Design at Jaguar Land Rover, Jo Lewis, Senior Colour & Materials Designer at McLaren Automotive and David Lillywhite, Editor of Magneto, who were the judges.

The winner, the one-of-one 1938 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante Coupe by Gangloff, featured a stunning black over purple two-seat coupe body. “It’s simply a beautiful car,” said Richard Woolley. “We knew it was the winner because it was the car we spent the longest time looking at. We gravitated toward it.” 

Jo Lewis said: “It was an incredibly forward-thinking and innovative product at the time.

The paintwork and body is exquisite, the interior just beautiful, while the colour combination wouldn’t look out of place on a car today.”

David Lillywhite added: “This is a stunning car, it really pushed automotive design in the early Thirties and is a credit to the forward thinking of Jean Bugatti who led the project.”

From a private collection shown by the Mullin Automotive Museum, the award was received on their behalf on the Saturday by Classic Motor Hub’s Richard Wrightson. Specially produced by CALLUM, the trophy is a gear lever wrapped in Bridge of Weir leather.

On the Friday, a stunning debut was made by the one-off Aston Martin Victor. Bridge of Weir is proud to have supported the famous British luxury car maker on this remarkable project, responsible for the hides used for its incredible Forest Green leather interior.
